Who is called to adopt?
While I enjoyed lunch with a few colleagues recently, I shared a video of a sweet family. The family recently brought their newly adopted son home to meet his siblings. As we all ohhh?d and ahhh?d over all the baby cuteness, one of the ladies asked if the siblings in the video were the families biological children. I replied, yes, I think so. She then stated,so if they could have kids, why did they adopt?? In that moment, I realized the big misconception, that adoption is only for those who can’t biologically have children. It was as if adoption was second best or a default decision to create a family. I know this is so far from God’s truth.
So, I began to think?.just who is called to adopt?
Those who are Christians? The bible shares God’s attitude of care for the widow and the orphan. He commands us to care for them.
Those who seek to make a broken situation beautiful? If every loving birth mother who placed their child for adoption had the ability to parent, adoption wouldn’t exist. Therefore, adoption often originates from a broken scenario. However, a birthmother’s loving decision sustains life for the child and creates and blesses a beautiful family. After all, weren’t we all broken spiritually and God adopted us and made us beautiful.
Those who trust in God’s plan Adoption is not always easy, in fact it is often a very challenging and arduous journey. There are sometimes disappointments, financial needs, paperwork, paperwork and more paperwork. Did I mention all the paperwork? Do you trust in God’s plan for your family? Can you cling to his promises when things are challenging?
Those who know how to wait Adoption requires patience and is often full of waiting. What can you learn through the waiting? Do you believe God’s timing is perfect? Your waiting will be purposeful, but that doesn’t always make it easy.
Those who believe they have love to share with a child Adoption isn’t for perfect parents. Do you know any of those? I sure don’t. But if you believe you have love to share and can provide a nurturing environment where a child can grow to know our Lord, then adoption just may be for you.
Those who wish to experience joy! Oh the day that you meet your child, the joy will be overwhelming and uncontainable. This my friends, I can promise you!
