Erika’s story:
Our adoption journey began in September 2013 when we started working with CAC. Just four months later, we got the call that we had been matched with an expectant mother who was due with a baby boy. That following month, we were asked how soon we could book a flight to Florida because the expectant mother was to be induced early the next morning! It was amusing to see so many puzzled looks as we ran through the airport with an empty car seat in hand, being escorted by airport staff, and just barely making it to our gate on time. We arrived at the hospital the next morning and got to spend all day with the birth mother and her family before getting to meet our son, Nolan, that evening.
Two-and-a-half years later, CAC walked alongside us through our second adoption. Our baby girl, Kaia, was born just six months after signing on with CAC, and it was another whirlwind experience! She had been born the week prior, and I got the phone call at work that we had been chosen! My husband and I had been working on the same campus at that time, and I remember sprinting over to his building, and hurriedly asking an administrator if I could interrupt the class he was teaching to tell him that we now had a daughter!
We have been fortunate to build such positive relationships with our kids’ birth mothers and we have since made several trips to visit them. We have the utmost respect for these amazing women who have given us the gift of life and have changed our lives forever.
