Michael and Katie adopted their incredible son, Carter, with the assistance of Christian Adoption Consultant’s Special Needs program.Katie now serves as an Adoption Advocate with CAC. She eagerly shares some of their adoption journey here in her own words:
“I was an adoption “researcher;” I searched high and low for the best adoption route for our family. I remember I found CAC and looked it over.. but initially didn’t consider it. Then one day our social worker said she knew a family that worked with them and noticed they had a special needs program. I can truly say we were led straight to Tracie by the Lord. We started our adoption process in the foster/adoption program but things just weren’t working out. We had to stop and pray hard about what direction we should take. At that time, my husband and I both agreed it was time to work towards a private adoption of a special needs child. Specifically Down Syndrome. Throughout our entire journey, we both had fears of seeking a child with special needs. Neither of us had much experience in that area. Not to mention, a private adoption meant we needed to fund an adoption, and that was scary too.
After speaking to multiple agencies and social workers…waiting days for replies etc., we knew the moment we spoke to Tracie, that we were going to work with her! She is so amazing! We just knew we were in the right hands. She has two children with down syndrome and we knew we had a great advocate on our side. We waited for our homestudy to be complete and were anxiously awaiting a call. About 1 month after the completion of our homestudy, Tracie called us. There was a baby boy, born with down syndrome, at a hospital about 20 minutes away from her! She said his birth mom was making an adoption plan and of course, long story short, we were matched!
I could go on and on about all Tracie and Christian Adoption Consultants did for us, but that would take forever.
If you are considering adopting a child with special needs, you have found the right place. There is so much support and prayer in our CAC community, that you will have the courage to face those fears with confidence. If the Lord is leading you to adopt a baby with special needs… you will be so blessed. Tracie, myself and so many others have walked that road and will be here to answer any questions/concerns you may have.
Our sweet Carter fits perfectly into our family and I couldn’t imagine life any other way!”
