I was honored to walk with Cody and Emily on their adoption journey. Today on the blog, Cody & Emily share their fears, hesitations, expectations, and trust in God’s perfect plan to bring their baby boy home. While it’s not at all what they thought their journey would look like, they confidently stand on the other side of their adoption, knowing that God’s plans are always best!

After struggling with infertility and miscarriage for five years, we decided to start the adoption process. There was something in our hearts that we knew God was telling us we were ready and had faith that this was the right time. When we began our journey, there were so many fears and unknowns. But in our hearts, we knew it was our time, and God was calling us to start our family through adoption, so we faced those fears and pushed forward with our adoption journey. We are so thankful we did.
We began with fundraising in October, slowly chipping away, trying to reach our goal; we worked diligently on our home study and kept the process moving forward as much as possible. By January, it seemed like we kept hitting walls, and things weren’t progressing. Weather, computer problems, sickness, and delays in getting things accomplished prevented us from being able to apply to the agencies our consultant recommended. We started to feel defeated.
Then, on February 11th, we were contacted out of the blue about a local expecting mother who was about 20 weeks along in her pregnancy. She was looking to place her baby for adoption. We were in shock! Can this really happen like this? Is this a scam? What do we do?
We called our Adoption Consultant with CAC, Ann, who was able to guide us through this type of situation. We prayed, discussed our options together, and finally decided that we were going to move forward. We were through the roof with excitement but still tried to protect our hearts. Through Ann’s guidance, we got in contact with an adoption attorney. We began communicating with the expecting parents. We began building a relationship that has grown into a friendship!
June came rapidly (nine months after starting our adoption process), and we had a baby boy before we knew it! Emily was even able to be in the delivery room and watch as we became a family of three. The joy was indescribable.
Our adoption journey was not what we expected. God took our expectations and flipped them upside down, and we are so glad He did! Our prayers may not have been answered as we thought, but He continuously shows us that He is working even when we don’t see it. Our frustrations those months before learning about our baby boy that things weren’t moving fast enough all made sense. If we had gotten things done sooner, we would have been applying to agencies, we likely would have been in a different part of the process altogether, and we might have never learned about him. Ann continued to pray with us and guide us through our entire process. We still have communication with our son’s Birth Parents and have a fantastic relationship with them. We treasure our adoption journey and how God had His hand in the entire process!
