It was such an honor to walk with Dillon and Galen through their very fast adoption journey. Hearing their story, my heart immediately connected to theirs. I will never forget when the case came through; as I read it, I knew they would be the perfect match for this expecting mother and her baby boy. It’s cases like these that remind us that the Lord places these precious babes in families (Psalm 68:6). And confirms that even in the waiting and the “not yets”, the Lord is writing the most beautiful story of redemption, we only need to be still.

I am a cancer survivor, and my fertility after treatment was a little up in the air. I had saved eggs before chemo, but we knew I would not be able to carry children myself. However, adoption was always a desire I had since childhood; my mom herself was adopted.
When Dillon and I got married we knew we would adopt regardless but wanted to use the eggs I had saved. Last year, we began the process of creating embryos. The day they were to thaw my eggs in the lab I got a call letting me know that none of my eggs survived. We were devastated and we grieved but we also had hope.
Adoption was not our plan B. God had placed in on our hearts for a reason. Little did we know how perfectly he would fulfill that desire.

I contacted Jaclyn in October, and we quickly worked to become active with agencies. We saw many cases, but we knew they weren’t for us. Our prayer continued to be for discernment; we wanted God to guide us so that we could thoughtfully present to cases.
After the holidays we hadn’t seen any cases, and I was starting to get discouraged even though we were only recently active. I was at a meeting for work when I got a text from Dillon to look at a case we just received. As soon as I saw it, I knew.

Dillon and I texted about the case and we agreed to present. I emailed the agency that we were going to present. I also worked on a letter to the expectant mom. The couple had very specific wants for their adoptive family. Dillon and I met those wants almost perfectly.
Our profile was presented, along with others, the next morning. At 11 am, the agency called us and let us know we had been chosen. “They saw your profile and didn’t want to see any more”. We were in SHOCK. The due date was just two months away.
We spent the next few days and weeks carefully sharing the news and prepping for baby. I stayed hopeful but also knew she could choose to parent at any time.
One morning, at 6:45 am, 3 weeks before the due date, I received a text that she might be in labor. We began to make plans before work, knowing we may have a few hours or days to wait. 20 minutes later she told me her water had broken, and we started packing bags. 20 minutes later, I got a photo of our baby! I was standing in the kitchen. Dillon and I threw all of our things in a bag and made the 3-hour drive to meet our son—longest drive of our lives.
Meeting our son was so surreal. We were in shock and over the moon and also trying to navigate sharing this experience with another family. Our birth family is so awesome, and we spent time with them in the hospital, sharing stories and baby snuggles. The hospital gave us a corner of the nursery to snuggle him and have time alone. We brought him home two days later and have been obsessed since then.

We had only been active with CAC for 45 days before our match, and our baby came early! Our adoption process was a whirlwind. However, I had been praying specifically for a “quick match”, and man did God deliver on that! Our son’s story isn’t just ours to tell. There are details we won’t share now and may not ever share, but his life so far and all the details of his story point back to the faithfulness of God. God is in the details, and our son is proof.
We loved working with CAC and having Jaclyn on our team through it all.
